Specialties

Three kinds of work, one steady approach.

Thirty years of practice as a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, EMDR certified, in English or Spanish. In person in Weston and by telehealth across Florida.

01

Couples counseling.

Most couples arrive tired of the same argument. We slow that argument down until you can both see what is actually happening underneath it.

The work is practical: communication that does not escalate, repair after a rupture, rebuilding trust, and finding your way back to emotional and physical closeness.

02

Anxiety therapy.

Anxiety is exhausting because it never really clocks out. We work on the thoughts that keep the alarm ringing and on what your body does with them.

I draw on cognitive behavioral therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy, mindfulness, and compassion-focused work, matched to how you actually think.

03

Trauma therapy and EMDR.

Some experiences stay in the present tense long after they end. EMDR gives the nervous system a way to finish processing them without needing to retell every detail.

I am an EMDR-certified therapist, and we go at a pace you set, with stabilization first and no pushing.

04

Faith-informed marriage work.

Many couples choose Maria because she is a Christian. She is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, not clergy, and the work is clinical, but when you describe your marriage as a covenant, that is taken seriously as a reason rather than examined as a belief.

Three pages cover this in detail, depending on where you are.

05

EMDR, on its own terms.

Maria is EMDR certified. It shows up inside trauma work, but it is a distinct method with its own structure, and most people want to understand it before agreeing to it.

What it is in plain language, what a session actually looks like, why the whole story does not have to be retold, and why stabilization comes first.

Beyond those three

Alongside couples, anxiety, and trauma work, I also see clients for depression, and I work with teens and children as well as adults. Family sessions are part of marriage and family therapy training and are welcome here.

If you are not sure which of these describes what you are carrying, that is a normal place to start. Say a little about it and we can figure out the shape of the work together.
